SustainabilityAt Horbury School we are constantly striving to improve our sustainability. Many aspects of the school’s new building help us do this, including a biomass boiler burning sustainable & CO2 neutral wood chip pellets, natural ventilation with windows that automatically open and close according to the temperature and CO2 in the room and sedum roofing to attract wildlife. We are currently encouraging our staff to share cars to come to work and we should be installing our new bicycle sheds in the summer term. |

How can you help?We ask parents to encourage students to walk or cycle to school. To accomodate those who wish to cycle to our facilities, Horbury School is in the process of installing large-capacity bike-sheds on-site. However, if this is not possible, we would encourage the use of public transport or we would ask parents to share the school run. Carrying two or more students in one car reduces your daily carbon footprint. We would appreciate the support of our entire school community in this matter.
Our Student Travel Plan can be found by clicking here. Public transportation information can be found on the Arriva and Metro websites.
Students are actively encouraged to join groups responsible for the development of both the vegetable garden & wildlife garden, with the Science department putting additional focus on these areas as part of lessons. Parents and local business support are essential for the survival of these projects, so if you'd like to help or contribute in any way please get in touch! Existing parent contributions have allowed the school to purchase gardening tools and seeds (via vouchers) which are now being put to use in the various areas.
